Prepping For A Hot Mop Shower Pan Liner
When prepping for a Hot Mopped Shower Pan:
Make sure to have a sufficient amount of backing in between the wall studs, (2x10 usually works in most cases) backing for hot mopping should always be at least 3 inches above the curb/dam.
You can see in this picture the contractor did a very nice job with a plenty of backing for the hot mopper. Also note how the contractor extended his height of the blocking around the perimeter of the seat which is also going to be hot mopped.
Curb Preparation for Shower Pan Hot Mopping:
Curbs also known as dams, are in most cases 4 1/2 inches - 6 inches in height. This is usually achieved by stacking 2x4's flat onto the ground. Don't be worried about using wood, once the pan gets it's hot mop it will never see water.

Todays ventures brought a custom 4x7 shower pan with a bench and tub ledge, I like to Hot Mop the tub surrounds before the tub is installed if applicable. The next hot mop job was a owner/builder in which the homeowner had waited last to do the hot mop for his shower, he had finished the tile on the bathroom floor and the walls had been texured and painted, so it was a tedious job keeping the hot mop from the finished surfaces. When this occurrs it is not a problem, I just spend an extra 5 minutes and tape up all the clean/finished surfaces. Everybody was happy today so it was a great day in the hot mopping business.........Mark Ojeda

Kerdi Shower Pan vs Hot Mopping
Installing a shower pan can be cheap and many times it does not require great expertise to install tile ready shower pans. Ask yourself if the cheaper shower pan liner is actually tile ready. Do you trust that thin shower pan membrane against millions of gallons of water? You should always remember that choosing a shower pan liner over a hot mop shower pan can lead to leaks, water damage, and ultimately cost you thousands of dollars more than you originally expect to pay. A shower pan liner may seem cheaper at first, but you should take into consideration the long term effects and repercussions to using a cheap, inferior product in an area of your home that will be exposed to hundreds of thousands of gallons of water over the years.
